그 나라의 차가운 겨울 들판엔 아무 것도 자라지 못했지요
그러다 한 여행자가 와서 단지 하룻밤 묵을 곳과 먹을 것을 구하며
문 앞에서 도움을 요청했답니다
그러자 왕은 하인을 시켜 그 여행자를 쫓아 버렸죠
4월의 눈동자를 가진 소녀를 말예요
오, 그 소녀는 거친 바람과 눈보라가 휘몰아치는 차가운 겨울 밤을 헤치며
정처없이 나아갔답니다.
아, 그녀는 계속해서 말을 달렸어요
누가 그녀를 좀 도와 줬음 좋겠는데...
4월의 눈동자를 가진 그 소녀를 말예요
그녀는 밤새도록 말을 달리다 숲속에 사는
한 초라한 사람의 집에서 비쳐오는 불빛을 찾아 오게 됐지요
그는 그녀를 안으로 데려와 난롯가에 눕혔지만 죽고 말았답니다.
그래서 그는 그 소녀를 정성스레 묻어 주었지요
흰눈에 덮힌 온 세상에 다시 환한 아침이 밝았고
그녀가 잠들어 있는 곳에 그가 다다랐을 때
그의 마당엔 4월의 눈동자를 가진 그 소녀의 무덤 위에
꽃들이 만발해 있었어요
오, 그 소녀는 거친 바람과 눈보라가
휘몰아치는 차가운 겨울 밤을 헤치며 정처없이 나아갔답니다
아, 그녀는 정처없이 달렸지요
4월의 눈동자를 가진 그 소녀는 결국 이 세상을 떠나고 말았답니다.
